“Sheros, Missing from HIStory!” (1993)
In 1993, members of the Women’s Action Coalition researched individual women, or “Sheros”, whose stories are not typically included in history textbooks. Twelve posters were prepared, each on one woman, and pasted throughout the Boston area. Teachers also wrote to request copies to post in their classrooms. Included here are Fannie Lou Hamer, a civil rights activist, Mary Harris “Mother” Jones, who helped to organize copper mine and cotton mill workers against poor working conditions, and Hannah Senesh, a Jewish resistance leader. From the Women’s Action Coalition (Boston, Mass.) records.
