Cultural Pride

Celebrating culture became part of the overall mission of Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción (IBA) when in 1974 the Arte y Cultura department was created. The goal of Arte y Cultura is three-part: using the arts and culture as a means for community-building and empowerment; promoting, perpetuating, and preserving the Puerto Rican and Latino arts and culture; and providing Villa Victoria youth with tools for self-expression through the arts. Some of the activities sponsored by IBA’s cultural component includes the Café Teatro performance series, the AREYTO in-school cultural awareness program, IBA’s “Teen’s in Action” video program, and community events like Festival Betances and the Three King’s Day celebration.
