Pilot House Special Community Opening invitation (1965)

“Self-respect is the basis for civic pride.” “Health and Safety Policies,” Freedom House records, Fol. 1964

In 1965, Freedom House and the Boston Redevelopment Authority opened “Pilot House,” a joint rehabilitation project designed to spark interest and pride in home ownership in the Roxbury area. A decrepit Roxbury house was purchased and renovated into a duplex by community members, with materials and furnishings donated by many area businesses. Upon completion, the house was sold to a member of the community. From the Freedom House records.
