Community Centers for Women

One aspect of the Women’s Liberation movement was a focus on self-help. This self-help usually came through organizations run by women volunteers who assisted other women in finding the resources they needed to improve their lives. Women’s education centers, such as the ones in Somerville and Cambridge, provided much-needed liaisons between women and community services such as job placement, education, doctors, clinics, and housing opportunities.
