GAY & LESBIAN POLITICAL CAUCUS P.O. BOX 246 • STATE USE • BOSTON, MA 02133 o\\.~., (617) 262-1565 /\ 0te>J~~ URGENT ACTION ALERT ~ CALL YOUR STATE REPRESENTATIVE TODAY We have cause for celebration of the Senate victory on the Gay and Lesbian Civil Rights Bill (H. 5427). We made history on October 11, 1989, when the Senate passed this important anti-discrimination legislation. Never before has the bill come so close to passage. Many people think that the battle is over; that ultimate victory is certain this year. This is a grave mistake. There are several More Votes Which Must Yet Be Won, including a vote which is likely to take place This Week by the House of Representatives on whether or not to accept the Senate version of the bill. Although we achieved House approval of the bill last March, the vote margin was much too narrow for comfort-- only 75 Y-72 N!! And indications are that some representatives are uncomfortable with supporting the bill again, fearing negative reactions in their districts. That is why your phone call to your Representative this week could be the most important call you've made regarding the Gay and Lesbian Civil Rights Bill. Ask every friend and every relative to call, too. We need their help in the home stretch. Please help by calling your state representative today, even if you've called a dozen times before. Ask him or her to support unequivocally H. 5427, the gay and lesbian civil rights bill. Your call could be the deciding factor in whether this bill ultimately passes.
