Box 65, Back Bay Annex, Boston, MA 02 777 Dear Friend of the Alliance, The Greater Boston Lesbian and Gay Political Alliance is the state's largest and most active political organization devoted to fighting for your rights. Since 1983 we have worked to educate our community on the need for political activism, monitored the system for abuses of our human dignity and civil rights, and brought our issues to the forefront of local politics by endorsing and working to elect supportive candidates. In 1987 we witnessed-a dramatic increase in anti-lesbian/ gay violence. The Alliance was there to blow the whistle. Last year 600,000 gay men and lesbians were cheated of their civil rights when the Senate bottled up the state gay rights bill. The Alliance initiated statewide gay and straight progressive coalitions that gave us clear majorities in both homes of the legislature for the first time ever. But we need your help to continue the struggle against injustice and discrimination in 1988. By contributing to the Alliance you will be ensuring that committed activists will be able to continue to work to make gay and lesbian pride a way of life and not a mere parade slogan.
